István László 11112019
István László is an ethnic Hungarian artist, born in Romania. He lives and works in Dublin. Graduating from UAD Cluj, Romania in 2003 with a BA in Fine Art Sculpture, he completed an MFA in Digital Art in NCAD, Dublin in 2019. László’s multimedia work explores powerful image structures and their role in the digitalised world. His recent work focuses on the technological ways in which we navigate the world and interact with memory. By manipulating information from online visual archives, his projects pursue fragmented narratives that are created by interfering with past historical recordings. Utilising both image and moving image, physical and digital ‘props’, his sculptural video work explores the role of collective digital material and its growing presence in contemporary visual language and the potential of data as sculpture. László has exhibited internationally including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Bucharest; Műcsarnok Kunsthalle, Budapest; Sebastian Guinness Gallery, Dublin; Nassauischer Kunstverein, Wiesbaden; The Museum of Art, Cluj; Meessen De Clercq, Brussels; Feedback 1989, Tirane; Plan-B Gallery, Berlin; Wilkinson Gallery, London. He is currently a PhD researcher at DCU, focusing on digital media technologies in urban space.
