Alan Phelan 23092019
Alan Phelan has accumulated an expansive and experimental body of work over the last 25 years through a research-based approach and archive methodologies, which in the last five years has shifted emphasis to moving image installations and photography. These works fuse references that take the counterfactual or post-truth into re-narrativised contexts and fictional constructs. Working on exhibitions and projects in Dublin, New York, London, Paris, Buenos Aires, Brussels and Helsinki his work traces intersections of history, sexuality, material culture and politics which have evolved through sculpture, participatory events, and various media. Phelan defines his highly crafted films and objects as “cross-purposed to seduce and scattershot meaning through deliberate structured breakdowns”.
