Writer-based Writing_ Coming up with Something to Say

This presentation addresses a stage in the process of the development of a text where the writer's only concern is the articulation of what they want to say. In ancient rhetoric, this is the invention stage, where the orator is assessing whether the topic is relevant to the audience and timely (kairos) and whether the case made is logical and sound. The Reader-based writing stage is concerned with how the argument is presented: where style, arrangement and decorum are of concern. These are not the concerns at this early stage of the process, the writer-based writing stage.
